Temporary relaxation of work conditions in response to COVID-19
Due to workforce shortages, there is a temporary relaxation of student visa work limits to all sectors of the economy. This takes effect immediately for all ongoing students as well as new student arrivals who wish to commence a job prior to course commencement. These temporary measures remain in place until further notice. Students must ensure they are aware of any changes to visa conditions, including work rights.
Please check the Department of Home Affairs' website for further details and updates.
Students must still
- maintain their course enrolment
- ensure satisfactory course attendance, and
- ensure satisfactory course progress
Please note, the University does not issue letters confirming dates of official breaks and your or your dependant's work rights.
Registered employers and labour supply companies are able to check the work entitlements of a prospective employee by accessing the Department of Home Affairs' Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) facility.
Please refer your employer to the University website for viewing university advertised breaks and back to VEVO regarding your work rights.
Once the temporary relaxation of work hours ends, a "Working while studying – student declaration form" will be made available again for download that provides information about the Department of Home Affairs' student visa work conditions and Flinders University's semester dates.
International students may complete the form, sign and submit it to their employer when applying for employment. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that they are always compliant with their visa conditions
