Contact officers
Contact officers are members of the academic staff of each college that have been appointed to provide HDR students and supervisors with advice and support related to:
- The University's policies and procedures
- The student complaints process relating to supervised higher degree by research
HDR students can choose contact officers from colleges other than their own.
If any matters of concern are not resolved the student may seek resolution by conciliation through the manager of the Equal Opportunity Unit, Lisa O’Neill.

In consultation with the Deans of the relevant Colleges and the postgraduate student members of the Higher Degrees by Research Committee in a College, each Executive Dean of the College has appointed an appropriate number of members of the academic staff of the College as Contact Officers to provide the relevant parties with access to advice and support, and the means to achieve resolution of matters.
Contact Officers are selected on the basis that they can demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and a good level of understanding of the administration of higher degree by research matters and the operation of these procedures; and have appropriate experience in supervising the higher degree by research students. It is the responsibility of Contact Officers to:
- provide advice to students and staff about the University's policies and procedures for the administration of higher by research degrees
- provide support to students and staff in relation to student and supervisor concerns
- provide a first point of contact to enable the parties to resolve a matter of concern.

University Higher Degree by Research Committee (UHRC) Student Representatives
The University Higher Degrees by Research Committee (UHDRC) is an important governance sub-committee of the Academic Senate, which assists Senate to discharge its responsibilities regarding the accreditation, quality and compliance of higher degree by research education and training.
The UHDRC has student representation in its membership to enhance its student-centred approach and voice for the governance of HDR students. Student representation is embedded in the UHDRC’s Member Composition, within its Terms of Reference (ToR), and provides for:
- two HDR Student Members as voting members, and
- two HDR Student Alternate Members, to attend meetings as observers and Student Member back-ups.
The committee membership comprises the Dean of Graduate Research, College HDR Coordinators, two HDR student members as voting members, two HDR student alternate members, a student finance representative and HDR administrators. The term of the HDR student members is 1 year.

Research integrity advisors
In compliance with the Code, the University has appointed research integrity advisors to advise University staff and students on all matters relating to research integrity, the Code, and relevant University policies.
These advisors also act as potential contacts for any staff member or student wanting to make, or considering making, an allegation of research misconduct.
